94 S10 Blazer 4x4 problem

I have recently purchased a 94 s10 Blazer with a 4.3 V6. The 4Hi and 4LO doesn't work. The indicator light don't come on either. Any help would be great. Also anyone know who sells the black bumper cover for the rear bumper.
Thanks

Re: 94 S10 Blazer 4x4 problem

Your vacuum actuator is probably gone.

Be thankful you are caught in 2wd instead of 4lo or something.

Check your fuses for a blown fuse in the 4x4 circuit.

Thanks BlazerLT. Would you know where I could obtain an exploded view of the 4 wheel drive system. Example: from the switch to actuator to transfer case.

Re: 94 S10 Blazer 4x4 problem

On a 1994 S10 Blazer with a 4.3 V6. Are there any fuses located under the hood. What are the most common culprits when it comes to the 4x4 not engaging. The dash switch has power. The actuator located under the battery looks ok. What is the part on the tranfer case, that has a wiring harness connected to it? Sorry for all the questions. This is my 1st Blazer. Any help would be great, since the Chilton's Manual sucks.

Re: 94 S10 Blazer 4x4 problem

I finally can engage my vehicle in 4lo, 4hi still doesn't work. What part is located behind the glove compartment? I can hear a click, then the green and orange light blink and turn off. Also the actuator located under the battery. Any idea on the cost?
Thanks

Re: 94 S10 Blazer 4x4 problem

I just went through the very same problem you are describing. Luckily I have a friend that owns an AC Delco certified shop and we were able to identify the problem. Unfortunately it's not a simple solution. There are two main suspects, one being the electronic encoder motor on the transfer case and the control module in the dash. They both act virtually the same, 2wd works, 4hi gets you 3 blinks of the green light then defaults to 2wd, 4lo works normally. It took me, my buddy, snap-on modis scanner, the GM diagnostic flow charts and a couple hours to eliminate the module. Unfortunately I kept resetting the encoder motor by pushing the 4 hi button in nuetral then jamming it into park while the green light was flashing. That would get 4 hi to engage but I'm pretty sure that's what ate the front differential.

Just a heads up: there was a recall on the vacumn actuator switch on the 94 blazer. When I had service on ball joints after I bought my e-bay beauty, the dealer called, told me about it, and fixed it free!( my one good episode w/ a dealer) I had similar symptoms, and had even gone to the trouble of replacing those little lights.

Will a Chiltons or Haynes have the solution? Or am I dreaming? Or does anyone have a buddy mechanic in Cincinnati OH that wants to make a little extra cash on the side to help troubleshoot?

S10 4X4 Dash Lights - 4 Wheel Drive Not Working

Hi
A little Late ? I have a 94 S10 4X4 with 2 Problems.
# 1) My 4 Wheel driv did not work and my Dash Lights worked intermittently. Because my Dash light were on at Times I never checked the Fusses ( a smaller Fuse is for the Lights ? - There is a 25 or 30 AMP fuse that controls the 4 Wheel Drive (Motor) in the Transfer case, I Brought it to my Chevy Dealer and it costs $ 90.00 for a Fuse (No Problem/ I never would have found it Myself and the 4X4 Works Most of the time.

Problem # 2, The 4X4 Dash Control Panel Lights go Out sometimes also intermittently, I have Removed the Switch and Unplugged the Control unit Behind the R/H Kick Panel and the lights might still be out - Then all of a sudden they will come on and the 4X4 works Great.
Any Help would be Great
Thanks
Timmy from Connecticut

Re: 94 S10 Blazer 4x4 problem

French,

Sounds like the same problem I have. Where was the fuse located that controled the 4x4 transfer case?
