Exclamation Gas Tank Leaks

I have a 1988 Bronco w/300 I-6 and have a problem. MY GAS TANK LEAKS! I just bought it about a 3 weeks ago and the guy i bought it from must have "forgot" to tell me. lol. Anyways, my dad had a 1986 Bronco with a 302 and i remember him saying that his gas tank leaked too. Is this a common problem? Also, what can i do to fix it?

Re: Gas Tank Leaks

I own a 1988 Ford Bronco. I haven't had the gas tank leak. But i've had the water pump, heater, alternator(3 times), starter(2 times), battery, all the gauges(rpm, gas, mph, battery, water, oil), radio, back window, transmission, solenoid(3 times), Radiator, key ignition, and all the brake parts go bad. But it was a great learning experience fixing most of it.

I just replace the major parts. The minor stuff like heater, gauges, back window and things, I didn't worry about.

Re: Gas Tank Leaks

I was told by someone today that the skidplate is the reason the gas tank leaks. He said the reason is that the skidplate is too close to the tank and small rocks get wedged imbetween the tank and the skidplate and the rocks wear holes in the tank. I guess i'll have to rip off the skidplate to see what's going on.

Re: Gas Tank Leaks

2crunk you are correct. The skid plat is too close to the tank. Mud and rocks get caught in between and after a few years well you know. When you replace the tank space the skid plate down a half inch and drill a few more drain holes in it.
