Chrome paint under clear plastic
I neet to put both chrome and black paint on the backside of a clear plastic part. The parts to be painted chrome are recessed, so it's easy to paint them first, then spray the rest of the backside with black.
I tried using my chrome enamel from Tamiya, but after it cured, it looked like a dull metallic grey through the plastic. My next shot will be Alclad II. Does anyone have pictures of Alclad sprayed on the backside of clear plastic? Does it retain its chrome reflectiveness? The closest example I could find in the forum was Veyron's Exiv road car, but that was rather artfully done for a different effect... Thanks, guys...

Re: Chrome paint under clear plastic
I tried spraying Alcald II Chrome on the inside of a rally car window once to see if it would work replicating the reflective windows used on some hot events. The shine was very good, too opaque for the effect I was after but may be more like you're looking for. Hang on a tick and I'll get a picture.

Re: Chrome paint under clear plastic
There you go. The chrome is slightly transparent and rubs off easily. I suspect a coat of black enamel would help with both those issues.

It should look pretty good, just spray it lightly and back it up w/black. I did the same window trick on a Celica, and backed the chrome fade tint with Testors smoke, this didn't hurt the chrome effect and it made the chrome permanent.
GRRRRRR....A/F went Lewinsky yet again while I was trying to post...what type of part are you trying to detail w/chrome? Bare Metal Foil might work as well.
