1998 water pump replacement
Any tip on how to replace a water pump in the Suburban? I have replaced about 10 water pumps but not a Suburban. Also any ideas on what is the best brand to buy? Partsamerica.com has whole list of types. Thanks Dave

Re: 1998 water pump replacement
A small block chevy water pump is a small block chevy water pump......the only difference is on the 96 and up, the fan mounts to the pump via a nut.
There is a special tool to remove the fan assembly from the pump,or you can use a large wrench (about 1 1/4) and smack it with a hammer to loosen the nut.

Re: 1998 water pump replacement
I used to work for Advance Auto. Still a big patron for the brands they carry. PartsAmerica.com is just an extension of that store. I have never had a problem with the ASC brand water pump. I have on installed on my 96 Z71. The GNB comes in at a close second. They are both excellent companies. But a word of caution though, I would steer away from any remanufactured pump if you are ordering online. I have seen pumps that had gouged gasket surfaces right out of the box. Not worth the time or money. I would pay the extra money for the Lifetime warrenty pump, which is a BRAND NEW casting with PERFECT gasket surfaces. Just my two cents. -Chris
