Re: creatine again

water. A LOT OF WATER, largest risk while taking crea is dehydration. chug the shit 24/7, but tht doesnt mean stopp drinking orange juice etc. its impossible to just drink 2 gal of water in one day, so during the season (when i have to drink tht much) i mix it with gatorade, orange juice, apple juice, or etc. so it actualy has some substance to it. I would recomend doing this. See the problem with just drinking water is that your body "turns off" your thirst after it gets water, but stuff like gatorade has sodium, etc in it which triggers thirst so you can consume the liquid with more ease. That being said DO NOT go out and drink 2 gal of water a day, i am a very big guy, and my workouts are intense as hell so i need it, and am usualy still thirsty afterwards surprisingly. For an average person aiming for 1 1/2 or less is a good idea for most people because too much water (2 gal+) can be poisonous.

Re: creatine again

do NOTTT take creatine with any citrus juices!
these drinks OJ, grapefruit...contain ascorbic acid (vitamin C).
vitamin C destroys the composition of phosphocreatine. phosphocreatine is what creatine monohydrate turns into once it is in your body.

if you take creatine and orange juice it would be like you are not taking creatine whatsoever. it would be a waste of money.

make sure you take creatine with a simple carb to allow a bondage and to aid in absorption. good luck take my advice.

Re: creatine again

gotta disagree with you man, vitamin C provides protection against exercise induced free redicals. you dont have to down a gallon or orange juice every day, but you still need vitamin c, a lot of creatine "mixes" actually contain vitamin C. But dont worry about taking supplements, getting the vitamins from natural sources like fruit or fruit juice is the best way.

you take creatine, but you dont know what ascorbic acid does to the molecular composition of creatine? hmmm, look it up.

if i was unclear, i am stating that you should not have any citrus juice and creatine in your stomach at the same time. of course you can take these juices.

Re: creatine again

i dont take creatine, as far as im concerned it is a lazy way of doing things, and i couldve told you that vitamin C can break down phosphocreatine, but what you have to understand is that in a healthy diet you are going to have to mix creatine and vitamin C to some extent. You have to do so in moderation, but still be sure to get enough vitamin C. If you take creatine 5x/day(loading) or 2x/day(maintenance) it is bound to have to come in to contace with vitamin C. Which also has to be taken daily, because as you probably know it is water soluable and therefore flushed out of your system periodically unlike fat soluable vitamins. Taking creatine only flushes vitamin c out faster so it is important to pay attention to your vitamin c intake.

That being said i never suggested that creatine should be taken directly alongside orange juice, or etc. just that it is still important to include vitamin c in your diet. Creatine should be taken with grape juice or other juices w/o citric acid b/c it does denature it into a waste product. Caffine is alos something you will want to avoid as it plays a well known role in excreting water from the body. When you take crea with grape juice or sweetened drinks (yeah that powder crap you buy for your kids) kool aid and etc and simple carbs you increase insulin release which drives the creatine into your muscle cells.

but the bottom line is that vitamin c and other antioxidants help to decrease muscle tssue damage from lifting so they should never be left out of a smart lifter's diet.

By the way.
-Jarrow's creatine surge
-EAS Betagen HP Creatine HMB
- countless creatine fuel cocktails

just a few examples of the many creatine based supplements which include vitamin c directly along with the crea.

Re: creatine again

Is it really better to take it with food, or does it really matter?

Re: creatine again

As for the question earlier, a full stomach doesn't matter.. but if you want it to be fully effective, take it with a drink like grape juice, and eat as much food as you can, while drinking as much water as you can.
