Radiator Overflow Hose

Hi,

This might seem like a stupid question but I was driving home today and the check engine light came on. When I got home I popped the hood and seen the radiator overflow hose just sort of hanging there. It was still attached to the reservoir but no where else. Is it supposed to be attached somewhere besides the reservoir or does it just hang loose? Could this have been why the check engine light came on?

I have a 1994 S10 with a 2.2 liter engine.

It should go to the rad cap.

There should be a connector for it to attach to.

With the engine cold, open the rad cap and take a look inside.

Is the coolant right up to the top?

Also, did you read your codes?

Do you know how to jump your codes to find what they are?

The hose leading from the reservoir to the rad cap is still attached. It is the other hose coming from the reservoir that looks to be just hanging. I have looked for a place to attach it but can't see anywhere. Is this just a 'weep' hose of some sort? I took the hose and sort of bent it upwards and now the check engine light does not come on anymore. Can anyone shed any light on this? (Really wish I had a digital camera!) I should also add that at no time did the engine overheat. I drove about 15 miles home and it didn't overheat so how important is this hose?

Yes thst hose just hangs there and pisses on the ground.

Yes, it is a overflow hose.

Did you look in your rad when it was cold like I asked?

Did you check what code your engine has stored?

Sorry BlazerLT for taking so long to reply to your reply, had a bit of a computer meltdown.

Yes I did check the radiator and it was full. I do not know how to jump my codes. My service engine light hasn't come on since and the truck seems to working fine.
I appreciate the info with the overflow hose. I find it funny how I didn't notice it there before. I had a friend install some stereo equipment (amplifier power cable) from the battery and I think he must of moved the hose out of place.

Jumping the codes is rather easy and just need to use a paperclip.

Although the light is not on, it is stilled in the computer's memory and you should find out what it is.

Autozone will scan the code for free.

Go and get it extracted and come back here with the EXACT number, and not what the attendent said.
