How to: "Pronet" tailgate net

So now that our wedding is over, our honeymoon finished and now that life is starting to get "normal".....I've found myself with a little spare-time on my hands.

It has been over a month since I last worked on my latest project, my Dodge D-50 Pickup. I wanted to do something a little fun with it, and I decided on a tailgate net.

Here is what you are going to need:

-wax paper
-masking tape
-a pickup tailgate to use as a template
-a sharp hobby knife
-a straight edge

Also a self-healing mat "borrowed" from your wife, makes things much easier.

Step 1:

Stick a good sized piece of tape onto some wax paper. Make sure the tape is bigger than your tailgate and that the wax paper is bigger than the tape.

Step 2:

Using the tailgate as a template, cut out a rectangle out of the masking tape.

Step 3:

Using your straight edge, cut the rectangle into strips. I did this part by eye. To be in scale with a 1/25 kit, the strips would have to be 1.2mm in width. I went with something that looked, "about right". While you are at it, cut up some secondary strips of the left over tape from step 2, make these strips to run the width of the tailgate.

Step 4:

Take a new piece of tape and afix it to the wax paper over top of the hole you cut out in the beginning, remove old tape first. Once you have done this you can start applying the strips, sticky side to sticky side. I went with the smaller strips first.

Step 5:

Here is all the strips applied. Note: The cut-out is the size of your tail gate, don't apply the strips over the edges of the cut-out or it won't fit.

Step 6:

Using your straight edge cut out the tailgate, using the hole in the wax paper as your guide.

Here is a test fit:

Step 7:

Using your hobby knife, start opening up the webbing.

Getting there.

All done.

All it needs now is a coat of black paint and it'll look golden!
