Knee Injury

Update:
Thanks to all with suggestions on lower back training a few weeks ago. I did a hacked together routine from suggestions and general reading and they're strengthening nicely. Skiing this weekend I could notice the difference.

Problem:
Sometime yesterday afternoon I have injured my right knee in a falling injury. When standing up, putting weight evenly isn't a problem. When I attempt any kind of dynamic movement (walking, standing up etc), I experience a shooting pain down the right hand side, beneath the kneecap itself, with the pain radiating down towards my foot, stopping mid shin.

I am wondering if anyone could have a guess as to what I might have done and suggest some ways to help it heal faster?

Re: Knee Injury

Is there and crunching/cracking in/around your knee when you move it? Sounds like you displaced your knee cap over your femur, but you should still go see a doctor to be sure. If that is the problem you can expect some inflamation (depends on the situation, worse for some, some barely experience any swelling at all) and probly some pain when doing some things like walking up stairs, etc. Ask your doctor about treatig it, he/she will probably tell you to ice it a lot every day for like 20 min each time, and stretch out your quads and hamstrings, eventually you will want to strengthen your quads more as well, but in the meantime ice it a lot and you may want to try...ummm...shoe inserts i cant remember what they're called, foot orthopedics or whatever, they will help you to walk properly and take some stress off of the injury, talk to a doctor about which ones to get.

Re: Knee Injury

OK, thanks for that. Yes, there is a bit of inflammation and swelling and some nasty crunching type sounds when moving it.

If it doesn't show any improvments, will goto doctor in a couple of days.

Re: Knee Injury

ummm, you should go see a doctor now. if what you describe is true, then it's not going to just go away. ice it as much as possible to help with the swelling and get to a doc to sort you out.

Re: Knee Injury

yeah it will, but it is still a good idea to go to a doctor asap. Our bodies are fucking amazing at heeling stuff like this, i tore my hipflexer in half, 2 pieces, at the tendon. and somehow they found their way back to eachother, took like a year before it was completely healed tho.

Re: Knee Injury

Time/money pressures make that difficult for the next couple of days. Will see how it goes and see a doc if no improvement happens. for the advice.
