Angry Drive Shaft(CV) Wont Come Out!!!!

I'm in the midst of converting my 94 SL from automatic to manual, and all that's left to drop the automatic out is the right side drive shaft that goes into the transmission. The left side came right out, and my instructions say to pry out the right side but it won't budge!! It's in neutral, no fluid in it....does anyone know why this pos wont move???? I don't want to have to take out the whole strut assembly w/ the ECS and all. Help?!

you may need to use a slide hammer to get the leverage that you require

2 pieces? do u mean that plate w/ the four bolts holding it on has to come out too? or it can? The rest of the transmission is unbolted and sitting on a jack..can't even drop it to the ground b/c of the cv shaft, been at it for like 4 days w/ this problem. So a slide hammer would work? cuz i went to get one and everyone at the auto place seemed to think it wasnt going to work so i just bought some pry bars. Now I need 2 new ball joint boots, and a cv boot, any suggestions w/ that?

Re: Drive Shaft(CV) Wont Come Out!!!!

are you talking about the drivers side or the passenger side, b/c the Drivers side has a bracket on the back of the engine its 2x 14mm bolst and they have divets on them to mach them up to the exact place on the engine block when it goes back up, I know this b/c i just took my engine out to put forged internals in it. to get the engine seperate from the transmission I had to unbolt the drive shaft

your not going to be able to just snatch that one out!!
I hope this gets to you in time to help

Ohhh, yeah I got the driver's side shaft out already, I forgot to mention that. That one came right out, but the passenger side seems to be locked in there...you didn't have trouble w/ the passenger side one? I did some serious prying the other day, and i'm gonna go get a slide hammer today and try it out. But it seems as if i'm making no progress.

Hmm, well I ended up taking the boot off of the axle, and dropping the transmission out. Now the hub or w/e it's called is still stuck in the transmission, and still won't come out. I think im gonna wrap a chain around it and tie it to the back of my firebird and floor it lol. It's locked in there pretty good. Would I be able to take apart the transmission itself and get it out that way? I'm thinking thats my only option.

Re: Drive Shaft(CV) Wont Come Out!!!!

to get the driverside out your going to have to take the screw driver out and pry off the seal from the transmissioin, and then with a little manipulation she should come right out

The driver's side is already out....and the transmission is out of the car...but the part that the cv boot connects to on the passenger side is still stuck in the transmission.

Re: Drive Shaft(CV) Wont Come Out!!!!

ok bro, heres how your going to get them out.

I did this today just for you, ( well I had to get in and check deep and go through my wiring harness.

ok first take out the battery, then unscrew the battery tray and repreat with the metal tray connected to the washer fluid bottle, grab the washer fluid bottle by the neck and push toward the driver's side then up and remove the washer fluid bottle just move it out the way. here you can access the portion you need to pry to get away from the transmission.

now you need to take wheel off ( jack up the vehicle, and stablize it) take out the cotter pin, and take off the axle nut, it should be 32mm you can rent that socket at autozone. remove the brake caliper bracket only two bolts hold it in, look behind the brake caliper,

take off rotor,
take the spindle ( theres 2x 17mm bolts holding it to the strut, a nut on the bottom holding it to the ball joint, and another nut holding it to the rack and pinion tie rod end.

now pry the CV axle out there are even notches on the cv axle to help you pry

there you go

Thanks Turps, but too late I already got the transmission out, I just disconnected the boot from the cv axle. I said that like 4 replies ago lol. So now the only problem is the thing w/ the notches to pry it out is still in the transmission in my garage and wont come out and I need it to put back on the cv shaft. So its pretty much a matter of prying it out or taking the tranny apart since it's no good...Sorry you went through the trouble I really appreciate it, and what u said before helped a lot.
