SC2 completly dead - won't start

Turning the key does't make any control light in the cockpit work. The power locks don't funktion and none of the lights inside the car either. The attempt to jump-start the car didn't bring any life back to the car. No funktion at all. Exchanging the battery, for a brand new one, did't show any improvements. I checked all cables inside the cockpit and the once leaving the battery. All seem to be fine. I suppose it is a fuse that prevents the power from running through the sysem. At the first glance, none of the fuses seem to be blown. My constrain, I don't have a handbook and thus I don't know which fuse to look at/exchange.

check all fuses, under the hood and behind the passnger kick panel. the big green ones too. do you have ANY electrical responce?(the head lights and dome light should work with or without the key.) make sure the battery cable's bolts are tight.

i hate to say this but you may have a problem to which there is no simple fix.

do you own a multimeter or a test light?

first, thanks a lot for the response and sorry for the missing year. the SC2 was built in '96.

to anwer your question, there is no electronic response what so ever. no headlights, no cockpit light, nothing.

the other problem I have is the missing equipment that you are talking about. unfortunately I do not have any test light or multimeter available.

one more thing that may help. the car has just been returned to me after theft a couple of weeks ago. so, i wonder whether this helps to locate the problem. you my consider the way at which the thief started the car.

thanks for the info about the thief, most people won't think that was important.

most thefts start the car by basicly destroying the key cylinder, then hot wiring it with a screw driver. if that was the case, and it wasn't repaired right(or not at all) i imagine it would short out(which may distroy the battery cables), or open the circirt(but that wouldn't affect the headlight).

you can pick up a test light for around $10(or at least you can here in the US, i don't know about germany), it will help you find where you are losing power. i can tell you how to use it if you do buy one. if they don't sell them i can even tell you how to make your own.

again, check all fuses, make sure the battery bolts are tight. and do a visual check of the battery cables( there should be no burn makes, no brakes in the rubber, and a constint firm feel, not spongy).also try hooking up jumper cables to another car to try and charge the battery, if the battery is completely dead, it may take a few minutes to even turn on the dome lights. keep an eye on it, give it 5 minutes top.
