I have a 91 CRX HF My alternator died a month ago so
I replaced it. Since then my battery light would flash intermittently and for no apparent reason. This would only happen once every 60 miles or so. I figured it had a bad voltage regulator so I replaced it again. Very shortly after putting in #2 alternator I turn on my lights and they burnt out... then my highs (since I was driving at night) and they burnt out too. I had #2 checked and it was occasionally putting out 18 VDC. I am now getting ready to install my 3rd alternator. My question is....is there a second voltage regulator in the ECU that askes for a voltage? If so where is the ECU located? Under the hood or dash? Could my problem be a short? None of my fuses have blown. Also when the voltage first spiked with new #2 I smelled something funny in the car... I'm not sure if it was the fresh oil change (spill) or it toasted something under the dash. Any help would be appreciated. If you think it would be easier for me to call please give me your number. Re: 91 Honda CRX HF ALternator trouble or ECU?
You'll see your ecu under your carpet on the passenger side. Sounds like you need to check your ground wire? Its kinda hard to tell , i would have to see it.
