How to replace front wheel bearing?

Hey, I have a 99 Z24. Need to replace a front wheel bearing. Can anyone give me some directions. I have never tried to replace a wheel bearing on a front wheel drive. Not sure how different it is from a rear wheel drive car. They are easy to do.

I'd appreciate the help.

Thanks.

Re: How to replace front wheel bearing?

It is a whole one piece unit and is a bitch to install without the proper tools and knowledge.

Go grab a Chilton's or Haynes repair manual and check it out before you do it.

Re: How to replace front wheel bearing?

hub bearings are simple. Once you get the brake caliper and rotor off, all you need is a 30mm axle nut socket(you can rent one for free at Auto Zone) and a t55 torx socket ($3-$4). There is a hole in the hub between the lug studs. Spin the bearing to line this hole up to the 3 bolts holding the hub to the spindle. Remove the bolts using the t-55 torx and pull the bearing from the spindle. Sometimes they are stuck to the spindle with rust, so you may have to "convince" the old bearing out.

Sorry to resurrect......Is it possible to just change the bearing or does the whole hub need to be changed?

Thanks

Kris

Its a sealed unit. So the whole thing needs to come out.

Re: How to replace front wheel bearing?

I have to replace the front wheel bearing hub on my z24 as well.
So I need to know the following:
What are the torque specs for that 30mm nut?
Should I use any grease on the spline before I install the new hub?
Is it necessary that I have a front end allignment on my car afterwards?
