1968 mustang seat removal and carpet replacement

I am sure of how to remove the seats on 68 standard coupe. Should i remove the sliding track bolts that are bolted on the seats?By the way I am doing this to install my new carpet..HElp me

Not sure my '66 had new carpet and seats when I got it. Lemme know what you come up with. I'm fixing to do a headliner install.

I got i removed everything, there bolts underneith the car that had little rubber fittings that protected the screws from being rusted.They are located on the outside of the floorpans. Right now i need replace all the insulation as it being a 36 year old car all of the stuff is frail. I may eventually replace my seats w/ something modern like the 93-98 stang seats cause they are more comfy and have head support.

I have a 68 mustang fastback and did this a few years ago. This is one of the easiest things to do on this car. If all you want to do is replace your carpet you dont need to remove your tracks from the seats, however if you are going to leave them in there for awhile I would at least clean and lubricate the tracks. If they are like mine I'm betting they are pretty stiff. The hardest part about putting new carpet in is getting the center console back in place. But most 67 68 stangs didnt have them. Hope this helps.

Installing carpet isn't terribly difficult, but it can be frustrating. You will need to get under your car and locate the 4 rubber plugs/seat under the car pop those out and you will find the bolts holding the seat to the floor. These are 1/2 bolts, so you will need a deep seated lug to get at those bolts. Be sure to do the rear bolts first, if you do the front bolts first, the rear bolts might bind up and make it difficult to remove. Once you have removed the nuts holding the seats down, you should be able to lift the seat straight up and out.

Are you removing the rear seat as well? If so, you will need to push on the front bottom of the rear seat to unhook them from the retaining hooks under neath. Just push back and lift. It might take a couple of tries to get this undone. Once that has been unhooked, you can remove it and the back of the rear seat is held down by 2 1/2" bolts. Unscrew those and lift the seat back out.

I did this on a 66 coupe and one of the threads above mentions the difficulty re-installing the console, they know what they are talking about. What a PITA.
