One Last Check for 99 Taurus

I am about to swap out the transmission on this 99 Taurus SE with AXOD-E transmission. Before I do that I am still not sure about the problem. So I thought I run it by here one more time.

The reverse works fine.
When put in forward (O-D) gear, it takes a quick tap (quick tap to send engine RPM to 1500 in a jolt) on the gas pedal for transmission to lock and start moving. A quick tap, not the gradual depressing of the pedal normally done for acceleration.
After the transmission locks in foward, it's off to the races with smooth shifting all the way to top gear.

What is going on here? I have been advised to spend $1600 for rebuilt.
Advance thanks for any views and responses.

Re: One Last Check for 99 Taurus

the AX4S (what you have if you have a vulcan) has a problem where one of the actuator pistons likes to warp and not move into position when going from a stop unless somehow forced, this does sound a bit different than the typical problem with it though.

BUMP.

Seems no one wants to touch this one. Are transmissions that difficult to figure out?

Pretty hard to do a diagnosis without driving the vehicle on this one.

Re: One Last Check for 99 Taurus

I took the car to the salvage yard to put in another transmission. Hope it was the transmission, not something else.
Will know tommorrow.

FYI: My 1996 Taurus came with a 3.0L Vulcan & an AX4N transaxle. This is per my own visual, the dealership & the "Vehicle Build" print out.
