Re: getting more horsepower?

Uhh...

Those numbers refer to engine size in cubic inches. 302 is Ford's 5.0-liter H.O. V8, 305 is GM's 5.0-liter TPI V8. You have a V6 engine (not sure on cubic inch size). You should probably swap in an LT1 or LS1 engine from a 93-02 V8 F-Body/Corvette.

Re: getting more horsepower?

if you don't even know what size your engine is, I wouldn't suggest taking on any sort of project other than MAYBE filling the tank with gas.....you might also take it to wal-mart and have the oil changed.......

Not everyones born with a vast knowledge of cars like yourself, you gotta learn somewhere.

a 302 and a 305 are both V8s. You wont be able to squeeze much more hp out of your v6 though. Your much better off swapping a V8 in there or waiting a while and finding a car that came with a V8.

BTW fords 302 isnt always a HO motor and gm also had a 302 ci motor.

Re: getting more horsepower?

It was only meant as humor, I surely wasn't intending on insinuating that I have any more knowledge than anyone else and did not mean to offend anyone.....When I first bought my car I wasn't sure of the engine size either. This would not be indicative of a person with no mechanical knowledge.
The first step is to find out what size engine you have, then you may want to do a google search for info on that particular engine and see if perhaps you can find someone that has done some mods on a similar car. Mostly you won't be able to mod a v6 to get you a whole lot of power so the idea of doing an engine swap may perhaps be in your best interest. If this is the case and you would like to swap rather than just purchase one that is already so equiped you may want to do what everyone will tell you and that is to find a donor car with all the necessary parts and do it that way.....

Re: getting more horsepower?

oh hell.... look if u want speed put the damn thing on the bottle, but u may need to find out and then rethink if your car/engine can handle it, i have a v6 too and the thought of swaping that engine out is nuts, im buying a z or ss. anyways you having a 90 and me having a car six years newer than yours may make a difference u gotta ask around. dont give up because all my friends camaro/mustang drivers have v8's and they talk shit cause i got a 6 the parts are hard to find but they are out there, and if u have the money u can damn that will eat them alive but like i said, u need dough to be able to do that. if your pockesta aint that phat then do what you can for now and if a good deal comes your way later for a 8 jump on it. dont get discouraged u can make a 4 banger go fast u can make anything go fast!

Re: getting more horsepower?

im pretty sure the 1990 v6 model came with the 3.1L with MFI (multi-port fuel injection). the 3.1 was a 191cid with i believe 140hp..

as far as getting more horsepower.. it would be more beneficial and cheaper to just swap in a 350 than it would be to mod the sixer.. PM me if you have any questions regarding the matter.. i will be glad to help.

Re: getting more horsepower?

Philly, swaps on earlier gens were far easier, especially first and second.

Re: getting more horsepower?

To halt the upcoming discussion.... To each his/her own with either Buying a V-8 or doing a V6 to V8 swap. **USUALLY** it is cheaper to just by the V-8 But for those who want the EXPERIENCE to build it up, they can do that. To each his/her own Decide what you want to do, what kind of goals you want your car to do/have then you can post that and wecan suggest some possible paths for you.

Re: getting more horsepower?

Yup I'm trying to be helpful and non-insulting. Also I havn't been here very long but I can already see some kinds of arguments about to rise up.

Re: getting more horsepower?

one word, supercharger. Gives you all the fun of a bigger displacement engine and with the fuel efficiency of your v6. Not to mention people get really pissed when a car that they should lose to beats them.

Re: getting more horsepower?

If you want to go faster, the easiest way is to sell the V6 and buy a V8 equipped car...

Re: getting more horsepower?

But then you could just supercharge your 350, then there is nothing the V6 could do to catch up. Anything you can do to a V6 to build it up, you can do to a V8, and it would be well more worth the money time and effort.

Re: getting more horsepower?

being a v6 owner, i have looked into this many many many (more than i can count) times.. it is cheaper, smarter, and less of a hassle to buy the v8. WAY TOO MANY FACTORS IN A SWAP!.. just my opinion.. and if you want me to elaborate more on the matter, i will. but for now, im gonna save myself the typing..
