quote "supercharger" end-quote

Just wondering - has anyone seen (as I have) the items selling from various companies online which install in the air-intake hose, and supposedly "spiral" the incoming flow, thus (according to said companies) resulting in "better combustion"?

What, exactly, do these pieces of equiptment purport to do, and will they in fact act in the way they're touted?

Is it a decent use of one's money?

Just fact gathering here - trying to give some sort of "performance boost" (nothing major) for my current Grandma-mobile.. I'm really, really new at "modifications", and would rather play it way safe to start off with.
An addition to the "air intake path" seems safe enough.. but will it actually DO anything.

Thanks!

I've heard "good" things from a few people (hence the questioning), and figured I'd check it out - see if they were certifiably moronic, or if they knew what they were talking about.

Looks like the prior.
