Re: need help really bad

Doubt you can fix an auto yourself.... What were you doing to smoke the tires? And what is the tranny doing now? A new one would probably be 1000+, and maybe a little less than that for a rebuild.

You probly cooked the clutch packs in your transaxle if thats the case and it most likely is, then buh-bye transaxle. Just find a replacment transaxle from a junk yard or a Ford Dealership, and get installed.

I personally was going to put a SVT Focus 6spd in my ZX2 from the AT. I know the MTX75 will mate up its a 5 speed MT for the Focus and the ZX2 and SR. They arent to terribly expensive and not to hard to find.

the S/R does NOT have teh focus tranny it has teh same g15m as the zx2
and it is a LOT of work to get a focus tranny to work with a zx2 it is anyting but easy. one 1 person has made the swap

its a pointless swap just but teh zxtuner tranny from www.zxuner.com it takes a better beating the the svt tranny and is geared for the 1/4

The SVT Focus trans axle can be found the Ford Racing. Its expensive and they do make adapter kits, minor differences.

And NO its not geared for the 1/4 mile, theirs more to life than a short strip of asphault. Some of us like corners. Thats where the 6spd comes into its own.

From my research, you will need the Trans axle, complete transaxle, with half-shafts, cv joints, boots, everything, its actually just to swap the SVT-Zetec with tranny than it is to put the trans in.

I perfer a 6 spd over a 5 spd, the gearing in it are better, the SVT trans is stronger along with ALL of its components, and parts are more readly available for it. all in all it a win win situation.

Oh and ZX2srdotnet, I didnt say they were the same trans I said they will bolt up. I know they arent the same trans. The MTX75 is a different internal design and has some minor differences to the half-shaft tooth count. But are the same bell housing bolt pattern.

NO srdotnet,
You are READING INTO THE STATEMENT.

Let me re-word it for you. I wont speak "1337" either becuase that drives me nuts.

What I said was that the MTX75 will mate up to the ZX2 and the S/R, in otherwords to put it more simply. You can exchange them between the cars with little work. Or. You can put this one into that one.

Read the lines not between the lines.

Re: need help really bad

What's the weakness of the auto trasaxle on these? Just too much torque on a light-duty box? I've noticed this thing will really hop from a stop. More off-idle torque than I've seen in a 4-banger with auto before. I don't want to break it!! It is for my wife, though, so it is safe from me for the most part. She doesn't clown like I do.

Re: need help really bad

It seems that the ECM backs the throttle off just a little before shifting when you get on it. Am I imagining this, or is that the case? It is kinda like the Auto-shift semis I've driven. They throttle down before shifting to break the torque on the driveline. If that's the case, I'd think that punches from a stop would be the only really destructive thing you could do to it, other than manually shifting the auto. (is that a bad idea on these?)

you also need custom axles and to rework the clutch, its not just swap and go

Re: need help really bad

When I swap trans, I replace axles, clutch, and flywheel. But that may have been a misunderstanding, I often assume most people do this when doing something as major as a trans swap.

Jeff, most Ford Automatic transaxles in the newer lines of cars are packed full of clutch and metal plates, if someone "Hotrods" them one to many times you will cook the internals on them, or if someone failed to do a trans flush at its schedualed time and continued to drive on it in city wear and tear it will also cook the internals. I know nothing about the big rig trans other than they are ALOT bigger than the ones I work on. And as for it being a posi, I cant even remember right now I am elbow deep in my Nissan doing a complete brake job on it. As for it easing off of the throttle before it shifts, it does something like that, it cant really ease off of the throttle it can only cut fuel. Thats pretty much what it does before a shift. The Zetec is one of the torquiest 4 cylinders out there, this is good and bad, they are hell on ATs and often kill the internals on them if not taken care of with regular maintance. The manual version will eat clutchs if the driver is not familuer with the car.
