Thinking of buying a used 944

I'm going to see the car, an 89 944 with either 89K or 98K miles on it, previous owner is said to have been a local Dr., on Tuesday after work, and I'm afraid that the seller is going to put up a "buy it now or it's going to another buyer (his son)". The price is attractive at $3,500.00.

My preference is to put a refundable deposit on the car and take it to a reputable Porsche shop and get it inspected to see what I'm going to be dealing with specific to repairs, as the owner does not have a maintenance history. I realize that there are a number of significant cost repairs that it might need, and I've read the 924-944 FAQ (http://www.connact.com/~kgross/FAQ/944faq.html) and I plan to crawl all over the car to see how it measures up against this list.

I have to admit that I've not purchased many used cars, benefit of my father in-law retiring from GM, but based on your experience, what would you do?

Thanks in advance.
