Fuel gauge gone buzzerk

98 Autobahn Aurora fuel gauge, 90,000 miles goes crazy when filled up. Just noticed when tank is past the F mark, the gauge goes up and down from F to E then back to full every 30 seconds or so. Seems when the gauge begins to move off full, it stops. The range stays the same until the gauge touches E then it goes blank then resets. Any suggestions?

thanks

Seems I'm not the only one, thanks, after I restarted the car and drove for 40 miles it quit. Don't think I want to replace the sending unit but thanks again. One of those days I guess...

I had the same thing happen to me.
Come to find that the float arm was
chaffing the sender wire, and it started
to short out to the pump GND wire in the
tank!

Luckily, the sender is low voltage. Anyway,
this finally caused the pump to fail.

The pump and sender are easy to get to.
Pull the liner in the trunk and there is a door
on the trunk floor the top of the tank and
the pump/sender unit.

Re: Fuel gauge gone buzzerk

Thanks, I'm going to check that, funny, it hasn't been doing it lately. I'll check the wire.
