Check battery light comes on

The light came on about 2 weeks ago and stayed on for about an hour. During this hour the headlights were very dim and since then the engine has a bit of a rumble to it. It went off and I removed the leads to the battery when the car was running, it didnt shut off. I thought nothing of it to about 2 nights ago when the light came back on for a few moments. Any ideas on what could be the problem? The battery is a little over 2 years old, and I was thinking of replacing the alternator belt next.

Re: Check battery light comes on

I would check to make sure that the ground and positive leads from the battery are tight and properly connected. Also make sure they are clean on all contact surfaces. The battery light usually comes on when there is something wrong with the alternator. It can be anything, bad voltage regulator, bad alternator belt or the alternator could be going bad and is only charging part of the time. Change the belt first. Try the lead removal while the light is on and see if it dies, if it does, replace the alternator.

Re: Check battery light comes on

I just replaced the alternator on mine Friday, bat light came on and stayed on until I changed it. You could have autozone replace it. Mine was only putting out enough to run the car and nothing else.
