91 Accord SE. engine vibration & replacing oil pan gasket.

Hi all!! 1st time on here and seems like a great site!

I am buying this 91 Accord SE, automatic, 2.2 motor and 170,000 from my neighbor for a lousy 1300! I'd say from researching it is easily worth 2-2500. I have driven it many times and it runs fantastic and has a fresh tune up as I'm the one that did it.

My wife had an 88 CRX SI that ALWAYS vibrated a bit at idle but I suspect (again from research) that it may be the motor mounts that are bad on Accord? The second you tap the gas, the vibration..steering wheel shake is gone. Is this a trait also of the Accords or can it be the mounts? The car runs as smooth as silk except right at idle cold or hot.

How hard is it to replace the oil pan gasket? I may replace the pan too as I see it has a slight dent in it.

Any other info on what to look out for on this year would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Know of good sites for OEM parts?

Thanks so much!!!

Re: 91 Accord SE. engine vibration & replacing oil pan gasket.

the oil pan gasket is easy on them. the thing to watch for is on the old gasket were the suds stick through there are little metal rings that keep you from crushing the gasket to much. sometimes when the old gasket is removed and the rings stay on the stud. now when you install the new one there are two ring on the same stud and the gasket won't seal right . just check that the rings are gone before you put on a new one.

The motor mounts are easy to check. the fronts usually break on the top. the rears if im not mistaken are vacum operated. make sure the actuater rod is connected . it should also move when you either shift into drive or give it gas when still on the break. not sure which one is right.

apparently the motor mounts breaking and idle shake are common to those accords. search the forums
