what do u guys think of third gens ?

i was wondering how 3rd gen celicas are as in all around daily driver? like fuel efficiency, potential performance, comfort, and what not i know reliablity would be good because theyre toyota. i have been seeing them go fro 5-6 hundred dollars alot latley so im considering getting one in the future.

excelent fuel efficiency as would be expected for a 4-cyl of it's size.

I don't know about performance, I asked in another thread if it's possible to swap a Supra 6-cyl into it, but no one really answered it. Stock, my 84 has about 105 hp.
Mine's comfortable, rides pretty hard because of the sporty suspension, but it has premium seats... so yeah.
As a car, I freakin love my 3rd gen. They're super fun to drive, but being as it's 20 years old, it needs A LOT of cosmetic and minor repair work. and that's with a capital A LOT.

And if you're thinking of putting a stereo in it, don't even think of going to Best Buy. They don't carry any of the parts needed to install any kind of new stereo. You have to go to a shop that does custom work.

But for a 550 dollar car, my Celica has been the best money I've spent on a car.


edit:: and if you get one, stay away from the 2 door coupe models. Go for a Liftback, they look better, and if it were stainless steel It would look like a Delorean.

yea.. i hate the coupes and converts, i like the ones liek urs i luv the looks, do u think i could drive one in the snow?

I wouldn't know. But guessing from the weight and the drive train, it would probably be a little unweildy. but that's just a guess. I just have to wait until it snows in Virginia Beach... which might take a while.

yea i guess i'll have to wait and see what happens, how's your insurance ? this may be going to be my first car so i need to have relatively affordable insurance.

almost non-existant. You don't typically put collision insurance on a 500 dollar car, plus if you have a decent record they charge less. Also with it being a 20 year old car, they'll "total" your car faster if you get in an accident, not only because it's not worth much (Blue book can be up to 800 on a 3rd gen... if it's in outstanding condition with no miles on it), but because they don't want to pay for expensive vintage parts.

But do realize that the second you start putting noticable performance mods in it, and the insurance company finds out, your insurance sky rockets.

yea i see what you mean, even if i total the car i probably wont make a claim. the only reason i care about insurance is to make it road legal, how hard was it to make your car road safe as in repairs you had to make for it to be road legal ?
