hey guys ahh takin a look at my engine today i got a jumped timing belt what are the chances i bent a valve and if so how much to fix best and worst case sinario thanks alot if u could reply i love my car and im tryin to get it to run but im on 17 and low on cash just spent all of my money on buyin the thing lol but thanks alot, laterjumped timing belt

Well the cost of the valves you bent (going to be at least 2), Then the pistion is probly cracked so new pistion(s), valve seals (might as well), pistion rings, might as well put in rod bearings (if you have to take the pistion out), timing belt (a cheap one is $50), Probly should put in a new water pump well your timing belt is off, and the cost of labor if you dont know how to do it your self.

My RUFF guess would be from $200-$555.55

If the motor runs fine no damage was done. Just fix it and drive that POS on...

I like Kevin's philosophy...if it aint' broke don't fix it! Is your engine the 4g63 or a 420a?

Try to do this yourself with the Haynes manual or by reading the vfaq.com timing belt install tutorial if your car is turbo:

1) re-time the engine....make sure the belt is tensioned properly, and see how the car runs

2) if car runs fine, game over, your valves are good enough

3) If not, try to fix things yourself, or hire a mechanic

If you jumped more than a couple of teeth and your car ran, chances are you bent a few valves. When timing my car, I made the mistake of letting my buddy Brian time the cam sprockets--he had timing off 180 degrees. Fortunately, my battery was too dead to start the car, and Dupeto_E caught the problem before we got it started!

I Dunno, what is practically a full motor rebuild will cos that just in machine shop work IF THE VALVES ARE BENT (No confirmation that they are yet), the pistons survive 99.99% of the time. They just kiss the valves, no real impact unless things go horribly wrong (belt breaks completely, etc). We're typically looking at 200-300 to rebuild the head (300 side if it needs new guiges, which is often the case after bending valves), 60-90 for a head gasket (stock vs metal), 90 for ARPS while you're in there (Cant reuse stock 7 bolt head bolts anyway and they arent much cheaper), and all the parts needed for a tbelt job if the car happens to be due for one (every 60k miles). Might as well make it an uppper gasket kit instaed of buying the HG and replace all the seals up top as well. I get about 6-700 just in parts. Labor will be almost as much again. Its not cheap, and this is the reason why we can pick up "t-belt cars" cheap, fix them up, and sell them for full value.
