Red face Lotus Elise vs AMERICAN MUSCLE cars etc etc

I've recently read a few forums questioning which is quicker.. a Dodge Viper or Lotus Elise? Perhps a Ford mustang Cobra or a Lotus Elise? And a comment which said " the lotus only has a 1. something litre engine, compared to the Vipers 8.0 litre 550bhp!" I even cast my eyes upon what can only be described as a stupid comment about the Lotus Elise having "a really slow lap time".

When are people going to learn? (Sigh!) You just don't get it...do you?

Having lived in the United States for three years and having seen what there is to offer over there in terms of cars, and driven most including Corvettes, Mustang Cobra's I feel I can comment from experience.

I now live back in the UK, born and bread by the way, and own a 2004 Lotus Elise......The land where a plump overweight old man, retired from Formula 1 can try his hand at Indy car to pass the time and still manage to win with ease?!! ....The place where Colin Chapman founded Lotus Cars.

So I ask you, where would we be without Lotus today? Having invented downforce, 'ground effect', the first manufacturer to place engine in the middle of the car for perfect weight distribution, the floating chassis....the list goes on, we wouldn't be anywhere near where we are today with regard to cars that perform on and off the track.

When Lotus WON their first Formula One championship, competeing against Porsche's with a monstrous 450bhp at the time, the championship winning Lotus car had a mere 100bhp! Living by the same principles today, we have the Elise.

With UNRIVALLED cornering ability, and electric acceleration, over the last four months I have seen BMW M3's and 2004 Subaru Impreza WR1's disappear in my rear view mirror....and anything from the other side of the pond would suffer the same fate. I have even seen Ferrari 360 Modena drivers throw their helmets at the ground in disgust after many a track day, at the thought of being lapped by a four cylinder 1.8 litre Elise. And I haven't even touched on the Lotus Exige yet!

Another comment passed by a gentleman reads "There are only straight roads in a 'grid' like system where I live with no bends or 'twisties' like in Europe. If I was revving my engine at the traffic lights, with my girlfriend in the passenger seat with a Lotus Eise next to me, what is it going to do then?" Well, there is only one answer...and that, my friend, is embarress you!

Furthermore, it is undoubtedley one of the best looking cars on the road today, in any continent.

If you supercharge a block of flats, are you telling me that they're going to be quick off the mark or round the corners!

Keep dreamin boys!

Agreed, I don't see the point being made here either. I don't recall any threads started here putting down any Lotus's. So this brings me to the next question, why is this moron in here. See this is a perfect example of what I'm talking about. Everyone calls us assholes but what about these idiots who come over here and start shit for no reason.

Dude find the right forum, get in your 1 litre go cart and get lost.

Unrivaled cornering ability, what the fuck are you talking about. Theres a pompus cocksucker here with an imported elise, he gets steamrolled by a friend of mine with a 93 Talon TSI AWD with coil overs, bigger sway bars, some falken azenis on new 17" rims, a slightly bigger turbo, full exhaust, and an intercooler. Guess what, he drives it all year around, it will seat 2 people in total comfort for 10+ hours, 4 adults on short trips, and when you see someone driving an eclipse you don't think "He must enjoy getting fisted" like I know I do every time I see some old bastard getting out of an elise because he's too cheap to buy a real sports car. Anyways, have fun with the bannage.

Lotuses are really not that amazing.... when you see or ride in a Lotus for real you will notice that it has the shize, shape, feel of a go-kart than a car.(exception Esprit). So the numbers it put up are not that amazing cause it is a horrible everday driver.

If you really have an elise and your serious then your a grade A a-hole. I got a Saleen Mustang and I consider it a nice car thats pretty fast, but I dont go into the Honda and Geo forums telling them how much their cars suck just because my car is faster. Lotus Elises should be reserved for nice people (like myself). Btw I would much rather have an Esprit then the Elise, its much better looking and a much more mature car all around. And I personally never said the elise had a slow track time.

Re: Lotus Elise vs AMERICAN MUSCLE cars etc etc

Ok he made a post talking about this "great" Lotus Elise. Lets run some numbers then.

2005 Lotus Elise
$39,000
190 HP
133 lb torque
top speed 140
0-60 4.9
0-100 12.6
1/4 ?????

2003 Mustang Cobra
$35,000
390 HP
390 lb torque
top speed 160 (limited)
0-60 4.5
0-100 10.4
1/4 mile 12.9

Macker-jo get your facts straight before you start posting your hate threads. You dis American cars yet the numbers show they're better.

Gentlemen. I am disappointed that you have to resort to swearing, I also see that you cannot spell or read for that matter, which illustrates that you are lacking intelligence. I have never said the car was imported? I empathise with your ignorance. Maybe one day when you grow a brain you will realise.

Realize what? I'm still lost on the point and value of this thread.

Macker-jo I am also disappointed. You seem to have some sort of intelligence. However your inability to share your information and ideas without putting others down shows your pretty ignorant as well. Your illconceived posts don't have a place in this forum. Can you read? M-U-S-T-A-N-G We are not interested in your Lotus, its history or your unfounded information.

Take your Lotus your shitty european attitude and get out of our forum and our country for that matter.

There is no point or need for that matter, with a post of this nature in this forum. Sorry, thread closed for the sheer fact that I say so!
