I have a 99 Olds Intrigue GLS. Just yesterday driving home from work my rear driver's side window fell down and won't stay up. The window hasn't worked for awhile now. Any ideas on how I can get it to stay up myself.

You will need to take the door trim off. I have had both my rear window motors go out (2nd one went out a few days ago). I just took the trim off and put a few small clamps on the metal part the window slides up and down on. I am just keeping those on until the replacment motor comes in. They are very easy to install, just a big pain taking off the door trim.

If the window fell down then it is the regulator at fault ,not the motor. It is fairly easy to replace once the door panel is off.

Quick question for those who have done this before...I stripped all the trim off and got to the where I can see (but not easily get to) the window motor, cables and the diagonal sliding rail. I'm sure the motor still works. From the look of things, it looks like the cable that runs down and up to the center plastic piece next to the slot pulled through the plastic piece. Has anyone had to replace this? It looks a little over my head. Is this repair listed in the Chilton's manual?

Oh, for those who would like some odd and somewhat useless advice, to stop the window from sliding down, I drilled a hole through the inner frame and the web of that diagonal slide, and stuck a screw through there, letting the window slide rest on that. It was a good enough for now fix.

That is exactly what happened to mine, since it was a motor I had already replaced and was still under warrenty, I got a new one. The motor, cables, and window track are all one piece and sold that way from what I have found.

Taking it all out is very easy. You have three bolts holding the motor in. Two on the top and two on the botton of the window track. Then you have two on a clamp that hold the window. Just start out by bringing the window half way down so you can see the clamp that holds the window, get some duck tape and put it on the window over the top of the door so the window will stay once it is detached from the track. Now just unscrew everything and the motor and track come right out.

If It is just that plastic piece that holds that metal wire, I would try and fix it your self maybe with some clue you can remake it.
