Unhappy I can't win..

Well I get my NEW head in, it looks like it's been sitting in an attic since 1995, like spider webs, and insects are dead in side of it and shit. LOVELY anyway I clean it all up and get everything bolted back up, and one of my bolts on the end of the camshaft holder breaks off. Great. None the less I put my valve cover back on, and I was trying to get one of the rubber parts out under the head of the bolt, with my hand...and it broke off also. Lovely. What f*&king luck. So how the hell do I get those broken bolts out of my shit?

Well at the shop if this happens they just spot weld a piece of metal on and twist it out. Is it drivable? If it is broke off down in there and you can't get it and it is also undrivable you might want to take a piece of metal (anything that will fit down there) and "weld" it on to the broken bolt with some JB weld. Hopefully it will hold tight enough for you to unscrew the bolt.

Re: I can't win..

go to sears, craftsman has a set of broken bolt extracters, drill a hole in the bolt, make sure its centered, insert the exrtacter and twist it out, be careful notto break the extracter off in the bolt though, b/c those pappies are hard let me tell ya.

kinda, but with the hurricane comming nobody is open so I can't ship it untill this whole thing blows over, so we're gonna have to wait untill after that.

Re: I can't win..

hey hey how strong is that bolt extractor from craftsman/sears? I've never had the chance to play with it...

the route i've always taken was drilling and re-tapping the hole with the proper metal fittings/threads. it does hold up very good.

for a little info/ tapped a block (a head bolt got fecked) and everything is fine under boost (1.6/ turbo/ dynoed around 190/stock 7psi spring) the tap held and is holding well.

I'll check and see how good it is since I work at sears.

Re: I can't win..

sorry to hear about your bad luck man, I'd just buy a new head gasket, and if that didn't work, I'd drive w/that motor until it died or blew up, which would give you time to save up for a new sohc motor to swap in, I know a guy who had a blown head gasket in his EF Hatch and drove it for like 2 months until it died, then swapped a Vtec head on it, and it ran fine
