Question theft systems and new decks

OK...have checked into as many old posts as possible about sunfires, theft systems and decks...all i got was more confused....
I've looked into everything about changin my deck...I want to take the stock one out and put in my clarion..know how to wire it up and all that but what is this about I will lose all sorts of stuff when i disconnect the old one and that i have to buy a kit or something so i can hook the old one up in my trunk?
should i just be "safe" about it and take it to a shop...or should I do it on my own? ....my ex had this all wired up before with a different deck in it, but when he left he took his deck with him and gave me back the stock one....and nothing was lost or didnt work when he had his in....so what's the deal here?
any ideas on what i should do?
i dont want to spend a million bucks to put it in...just want a better deck than the stock one (even tho my stock one isnt all that bad)
so help a girl out here......

Re: theft systems and new decks

Take your old deck out and put in a new one. I think it was in 99 that there was some of the theft system for the car was in the deck.
Check audio stores, you can get a player cheap.

The 96 didn't have them, it was optional in the 97. I have the anti-theft in my 97 GT. It's written on the deck if you have it, if it's not written on it then you don't have it so installing another deck is just as simple as installing a sound system in any old beatter.

Re: theft systems and new decks

I have antitheft on mine, but there is the passlock system that had a relay throught the deck. That happened in 99.

new deck

if your stock deck is equipped with the theft system you will have to go to a cutom stereo dealer and get the new wire harness it allows you to plug your old deck in and slide it under your driver seat or in the trunk and and also allows you to install a aftermarket stereo the wire harness runs about $80.00

If you want to chnage speakers, 6 x 9's in the back and 5-1/4 mid/tweeter combo in the front.

Re: theft systems and new decks

The stereo you chose depends on what you want.
I like my music loud, so i went with clarion 5-1/4 mid tweeter combo, clarion 6 x 9s (all speaker proaudio).
Clarion 400watt amp for the front and rear.
2 12" dual voicecoil subs, clarion of course, and used my old MTX Thunderpro amp to run them. Running it all off a 99 Panasonic deck with 5 volt pre outs....

.....and its loud.
