AC not cold during idle
Suddenly have a new problem with AC now, its cool/cold while driving around, but once I stop or get stuck in traffic it gets warm / humid.. If I get rolling again, it kicks in cold.. What's wrong?
thanks, CC |

Your AC radiator is heating up while you are not moving. I had the same problem and I would NOT have expected for the fan to be bad. Check to see if the AC fan on the radiator is spinning when you turn on the AC. It should blow pretty strong. Reason it gets cold when you move is because when you move your car, air is being forced into the radiator through the front. The fan keeps spinning to keep the radiator cool when you're not moving. Now... this fan is ONLY a DEALER part or junk yard part. I paid 50 bucks for one off of a 98 from a junk yard and works beautifully. its $167 from the dealer. You can always check your condensor also. Here's a quick test. In your driveway or something, idle your car, turn the ac on, spray your AC radiator with water from a hose (of course) and keep it on there for a minute. Then drop the hose and run inside the car and feel the temp. If its cold, the fan is bad. Your compressor will BARELY turn on if that radiator is HOT. Hope this helps.
