Jeep will not turn over.
My jeep just stopped in the middle of the road. Just as if you turned off the engine. It would not turn over, it didn't even click the starter. Since then I've checked the battery, alternator, fuses inside and outside the vehicle. I am able to turn over the starter with a "hot wire" but it will not start up.
There is no juice going to the distributor from the coil, I've put a DC volt tester on the electric plug that connects to the coil, and then I've turned the key over and then jumped the starter with a hot wire to see if any juice was flowing....na da. could use any advice....thx |

Re: Jeep will not turn over.
Which coil wire did you test with the volt meter?
What are the connecting points for the "hot wire"? Sounds like maybe a couple of things going on at once here or could be just a battery problem. first - clean the battery posts and tighten the clamps and make sure the battery is fully charged The no crank could also be the starter relay. If there are several relays all the same in the Power distribution center (PDC), try swapping the relays around. There is a fuse (F4,40amps) that supplies power to the ignition switch to engage the starter relay as well as suppply power the the starter solenoid when the key is in the start position. For no power to the coil, there should be a fuse in the PDC (F1 30 amp) that supplies power to the autoshutdown relay/coil/heated O2 sensor. Have had the O2 sensor short out and blow that fuse on a K car only it was a fusable link in that case. But then you said the fuses were good so----maybe there is a master fuse or a fusable link in the harness at the supply to the PDC. Follow the positive battery cables and find the one that ends up at the PDC. that's where it should be..... JD |

Re: Jeep will not turn over.
if it's the manual transmission, the no crank from the key could be a neutral safety switch on the clutch or trany, though my diagram doesn't show one.

Re: Jeep will not turn over.
Sounds like maybe a faulty ignition switch, or like JD siad, a bad Safety switch. Jumping out the starter only works that alone. You may have to look into getting the diagram for the ignition switch, read out the contacts.

The celanoid (spelling?) could also be shot in the starter... possibly the alternator altogether aswell.

Re: Jeep will not turn over.
I had the same problem with my 94 wrangler. It turned out to be a blown fuse-able link located behind the fuse box of all places. Once you can get a good view at the fuse-able links, you will be able to see right away if any are blown. On mine all I did was cut out the blown link, then installed a in-line fuse to match the resistance on the original link. I think it was 30 amp, can't be sure.
