Re: Scanners

They work well, But they're also illegal to have in a motor vehicle.

Re: Re: Scanners

If he is thinking of purchasing one, im pretty sure he is attempting to do something even more illegal. I actually want one. Not that it will help me avoid tickets, just that I can listen in, or even know where they are trapping ect.

Re: Scanners

i thought i saw some where i scanner/rear view mirror you could not tell from the outside it was a scanner unless it was turned on and the switches are hidden to. I dont know if cops can detect if you have one this this could be useless

Re: Scanners

um i got one from work... and it works fine... it depends on the state you're in if they are legal or not... in alabama they are legal... i know, cause i was pulled over once (no ticket) and he was like "you think that will stop us?" and he laughed and went 'go home"

Re: Scanners

i have a cobra one... it has the masking ability so cops can't tell you have one when they are scanning... it won't tell you where they are, but it will say when they are radaring and laser tagging cars.... very helpful

Re: Scanners

well i'll tell you about 2 ocassions off the top of my head...

i was racing against a 99 stang v6 and about half way, it went off so i let go of gas and just dropped down to 45 (speed limit was 40, i was going about 85... beating him, but he sped past me (didn't have one) and got the lights on him.

another time, almost late for school, i decided to go a bit faster (because south alabama is not forgiving on tardiness) i was going only 15 above the 40 speed limit, other cars were trying to go faster, but it went off again, i turned off the road and took hillcrest instead (speed limit 40 as well) and there was a gigantic trap... on the news they had gotten 7 people that morning for speeding (some even for 8 miles over)

the only down side is you begin to think you ae invincible, but you're not... cops can be anywhere with no radar and can still bust your iron foot. It's just a backup device for your own 2 eyes.

i think your talking about a radar detector, not a scanner. theres a big difference. scanner lets you listen to cops convo and where they are at and who they are chasing to help you out run them. like on the teckedimics(spelling?) videos. they arent illegal to have, but they are if they are on and in your car(not smart if your being pulled over). also i had a cobra and i thought it was a piece of crap. it never beeped loud enough.

Re: Scanners

oh, yea, that's what i meant.... scanner is stupid... who wants to hear about ppl getting shot? i'll watch the news for that. my cobra get's hella loud, even with the 12" sub banging i can still hear it. well worth the 80 dollar price tag

Re: Scanners

i disagree, i ended up getting at ticket while having the cobra on top notch(talk about feeling stupid) anyway if anyone is looking to buy at radar detector i would go with an escort a little high but if your smart i doubt youll ever get a ticket. and if you have the funds a valentine is the way to go.
also i dont think i scanner is that "stupid", i think it would be useful to hear what the cop in your pursuit is doing if your looking to get out of a ticket.
