to many civics

what can i do to my 99 eclipse rs that will make it beat civics. Cuz everyone and ther brother has one around where i live and they all got those big gay looking drag spoilers on them and there pissing me off. All i got in my eclipse right now is a cold air intake looking for some cheap or even free mods or engine tweaks that will start upping my horses.

Re: to many civics

I hear ya with the civic problem. DXs are the easiest. Shit, my Oldsmobile 88 Cutlass Ciera beat them every nite.

However, search the board. Almost every mod has been posted here. Spend the money on a turbo. If dont have that much:

-full intake (manifold, dropped intake, throttle body)
-exhaust (cat-back, manifold)
-ecu reprogramming (not the 'fake ebay' ones)
-plugs, wires

If you dont want to be Ricey, dont buy off-the-shelf stuff at pepboys. All Ricey

Re: to many civics

I personally like messing with the Civics. They all try looking like hard-asses with their spikey hair, big wings, and ugly-ass rims. They think they the shit. I love blowing them away without even trying. Its funny.

cold air intake would put you barely in front of one if it was stock

have you not updated your sig since you have put new mods on your car?

Re: to many civics

Naw, thats updated yesterday. However, its a 5spd, and I know how to drive. These civics are mostly autos. And the people that do have manuals dont know how to shift. All you hear is "Bump... and Grind!" Damn amaters. More mods are on the way, and Ill still kill them all

Re: to many civics

If turbo isn't in your budget, then I'd go with intake, headers, exhaust, and then a 75 shot of nitrous. That's should put you quite a few cars in front of a civic

Re: to many civics

true, it takes a good driver to win a race

also, dont let an automatic fool you, if you think the way the auto transmission works, it will let a car produce a faster 1/4 mile time. (stock torque converter vs stock clutch)

in my personal opinion, that is why DSMs put smaller turbo and injectors on the automatic.. to keep it the same speed as the 5 speed. but that is truely my speculation and i have not read or heard about the actual reason why

*EDIT* now that i am thinking about it, ill make a new thread asking about smaller turbo and injectors

Re: to many civics

automatics are not faster than 5spds stock! i dont care what you THINK... they are not faster. period! you take both your cars out (with a good driver in the 1st gen) and you race... gauranteed the 1st gen will win if both are stock! it will barry you out of the hole, i've seen it happen. i've done it before in my GST racing a 97 GSX auto, pull away right off the line. the auto tranny in the eclipse has no low end torque, so they suck ass launching!

Re: to many civics

Actually, the civic phenomenon was a pure fluke. It was never meant to be what it is today, it just sorta happened, and the aftermarket world and tuners fully capitalized on it. In reality, the civic's competition is the Mitsu Mirage/Lancer, Toyota Corolla, Chevy Cavilier, Nissan Sentra, etc etc... just a random thought...

Re: to many civics

I have a 92 civic dx auto and I just fixed up a crashed up 96 eclipse gs and I have to say that the eclipse is way faster than the civic. I have a full bosal exhaust, 4-2-1 headers, and an air intake on the civic and the gs in stock form feels way faster. I don't know how much high end torque the eclipse has compared to the civic because I haven't driven the eclipse past 90mph yet but I think because of the civic's headers it might just have a little more high end torque. But i won't know until i get to really push the eclipse.

the auto can run full boost before they even let off the brake. low end power is its strongpoint

I raced Karen a couple times in our 1g manual vs our 2g auto. we took turns driving each car and the auto came off the line better every time. there are too many hesitations spots in a manual tranny car because of the shift time.. unless you went to race shifting school or something

but our cars have slightly different mods on each but i would say they are pushing the same #s to the ground

A manual has every advantage over a auto.

Its lighter, has more gears to put the power thru, and i doesnt eat torque to operate.

The only way i can see him winning is because the auto eclipse were changed to give them more low end (info in the other post you made).

You two should race again but not from a stop. Do a "street start" (from like >15mph) that is a better mesure of a cars performance. Less factors on the launch.

Shift time?? All you have to do is rev it up and let the clutch slam. The "shift time" is less then .5 sec for that cluch to grab.

Re: to many civics

im not stirring up shit or anything like that but i see an automatic transmission being better than a manual. a simple aftermarket torque converter solves any low end power problems you guys are mentioning. manuals in my opinion are only "better" because the cost for performance being cheaper and maint. is minimal.(unless you rag the shit out of it)

for more info goto www.howstuffworks.com. comparing the two transmissions after reading what that site has to say about them tells me the auto makes more sense for a race car. but everyone is biased for stuff they prefer.

PS we need a mod to move this over to my thread i posted
