How to: Turbocharge your motor

*edit* *edit*
Alright, seeing as I messed up last time, here's a new and improved tutorial.

How To: Turbocharge Your Diecast

Ok, I added a few of my little "detail secrets" in this one, so enjoi.

Right-o, first things first, materials, I took pictures of what I used for refrence.

1. A motor to turbocharge, and an intercooler. I'm using a B18C5 Integra Type R Motor in a CRX Drag Car.

2. A Turbocharger, Intake Filter or Funnel ("open spool"), Super Glue,
and Rubber Tubing (comes with crappy WalMart airbrushes, alsoavailable at hobby shops)

3. Bendalbe Wire (goes inside tubing).

4. Insert the wire into the tubing.

5. Bend it to fit a path from your intake manifold, to your intercooler.
When you get a good fit, this would be a great time to paint it, I used Coloplace's Silver Aluminum #20012, gives a great shine.

6. Place your turbo somewhere you'll have room, because you'll be needing piping from the headers, a downpipe,
piping to the intercooler, and intake piping (if filtered).
I placed my turbo right off the intercooler seeing as it's a drag car, and it's right off the headers also.

7. Run a pipe from your headers to your turbo inlet.

8. Take this oppertunity to place your intake system, if your going to filter it this is a perfect time, seeing as your intercooler and turbo are in and plumbed
if your going to have it open spooled like mine placing the funnel is perfect at any time.

9. After you have your piping painted, attach it to your motor, and find a suitable place for a blow off valve (bov)

10. Now to make your turbo downpipe, coming from the back of the turbo out away from the motor.
Find a path that suits your application and bend the piping accordingly. Paint the piping then install.

11. Finally attach your down pipe and attach it to the exhaust line, or just dump it out the side.

Re: How to: Turbocharge your motor

**NOTE**

you cant use a CAI system with a turbo. it has to be either short ram or ram.

Re: How to: Turbocharge your motor

SORRY TO BRING UP AN OLD POST

i was looking at this....and thought there was something wrong with the set up. and i found it. you got your parts of the turbo ALL WRONG. i see the last post is in september...but i figured it would be better to bring up an old post and fix a mistake, than let people build their set ups wrong. i mean...we are about detail right?

Quote:
Then once you have your intake piping off the turbo dry
attach your exhaust dump piping, and send it back to the headers
i also answered that statement with the picture. the exhaust dump does not go back to the exhaust manifold. the downpipe connects directly to the turbo.

Re: How to: Turbocharge your motor

Yeah, I found that out not too long ago also, so I redid all my turbo systems, and I'm working on a better tutorial. Sorry about the mistake, and thanks for catching that.
