chevy 305 engines

i was wondering if anyone had any information/opinions on chevy small block 305's. I know they don't compare to 350's,but my dad's got one in his old work van that i could get. is it worth saving and rebuilding. Aftermarket and performance parts seem few and far between. Anybody have any suggestions?

Not worth trying to hot rod. If you just need a motor for getting around or just want to dress it up with chrome and such then its okay.

Re: chevy 305 engines

305's are not a very good foundation for a performance engine. I would sell it and get a 350 or by that 400 for $250 thats a good price.

Unless you are one of those people that just likes to be different, scrap it. Even if you wanted to be different, making a 307 fast would be cooler.

The first engine I rebuilt was a 305. I beat the snot out of it for 3 years. Then sold it to a friend and he dragged with it running 14's in the quarter. He replaced it with a bigger block and it is still running great to this day. They are nice engines worth rebuilding but not if your goal is power.
