Question Blue-ish smoke

I just got my accord last night. I'm really stoked about it, because it is a hell of a lot faster than my cutlass. Well the exhaust is broken where the head comes down to the cat. He had is wrapped with miffler tape, but he did a poor job, and it fell off already. I wasn't conserded because I plan on replacing the entire exhaust anyhow. Well my friend came up to me and said lets here it. So I had it in park, oh its a 93 EX automatic by the way. I figured some smoke would come up, but what worries me is that its kinda blueish, not very much. Why is that? This motor has to last me like 8 months untill I can afford a swap.

Re: Blue-ish smoke

Blue-ish smoke means its burning oil. which isn't big deal as long as you are checking oil level ones a week.

Okay, good. So its nothing serious, just keep oil in it?

Re: Blue-ish smoke

Oh, one more question while I'm at it. On the shifter there is a button you can press. it has two positions. When pressed it is in the 'speed' option, and when depressed its in the 'normal' option. Does the car really go faster when in the 'speed' option? I don't want to test it untill I fix the exhaust.

Re: Blue-ish smoke

It just moves the upshift positions somewhat (sort-of like flooring it). I could never feel much difference on my 91. (and it's "sport" not "speed" which should give you a clue)

Re: Blue-ish smoke

Burning oil is not good to the engine and the emission components, not to say it's harmful to the environment. I suggest you fix the problem asap, or soon your engine will have more serious problem because of this.

Re: Blue-ish smoke

I have no idea what the problem is, let alone how to fix it.

The cause of the this problem is that the oil leaks into the cylinder and burn with the fuel. Could be couple things, either one is not easy.

1. Valve seal leaking - you will need valve work on the cylinder head.
2. Oil ring - big job, re-build the engine.
3. Head gasket - replace.

Re: Blue-ish smoke

I am going to replace the head gasket and see if thats it. If thats not then I'll get the new motor, well I'm getting it anyhow.

Re: Blue-ish smoke

or it could be a stuck ring, to "unstick" it, i used a lil trick on a B16A SiR II motor by draining the oil, adding half motor oil (whatever you use) and half ATF. drive your car for about 60-100 miles, not really high revving it or anything, and you should slowly see the smoke starting to fade as you keep driving. it may take a while though. the lubricants in the ATF will unstick your stuck ring IF thats what the problem was. if not, or even if that was it, do an oil change filter and all. ((the right way))
