Unhappy Passat 91 overheats???

I guess it's the thermal sensor but i have no idea where it is. I changed the after-run sensor first because before the fans were not spinning at all when the car stop so i figured that out. However, now it seems the fans are not spinning when the car is running. On the driver side of the engine there is something that looks like a thermal sensor but they are actually two of them. One is with two pins the other one is with one only. Any ideas where there are or how can i start driving under 230C .
If it might be something else please let me know if possible. Thanks for the time and consideration.

Re: Passat 91 overheats???

The cooling fan thermoswitch should be on the lower left of the radiator. The single wire switch in the hose flange is the afterrun temp switch. Try jumping the red to the red/white (low speed) and the red to red/black (high speed) & see if the fan runs. Does the fan run when you turn on the A/C?

When the car is on and the A/C is on the fan starts running. When the engine is off and if the car is overheated the after-run sensor works as well - the fan is spinning. But when the A/C is off and the car is running the fan seems to be not spinning. I have red/white, red, brown wires on the thermal sensor i checked the red one - 12V red/white ? brown - ground. Should i jumper the red and red/white while the engine is on and see if the fan will start spinning?

Re: Passat 91 overheats???

Do you have a North American model, where are you located? I can only give NA information. The switch on the radiator has one wire that is 12V+ (from the 30 Amp fuse #19) & should be red and in the #3 pin position. The high speed to the fan should be a red/black wire in the pin #1 position. The low speed to the fan should be red/white in the #2 pin position. If you jumper pin #3 & #1 the fan should run on high, #3 & #2 the fan should run on low. If the above tests work and the fan isn't coming on when the engine is overheating the the switch isn't functioning.
