How good are Expeditions?
Our daughter is looking for a car to replace her aged and dead '93 Villager. She is love with Expeditions, mostly because she "Mommies" 5-6 kids from and to school. Her "x" has an Expedition, seems to have had good experience with it, however; everyone else I know with Expeditions has had rear end, engine and transmission failure. Someone, anyone or ALL of you are welcome to put your two cents worth in! Thanks in advance.

There's nothing wrong with the Expedition.
It requires the same kind of maintanence as other vehicles but is a strong performer, very reliable, and extremely versatile making it a great match for hauling people, luggage, equipment, a trailer, and all combinations of each, and it's not to large to take to the grocery store. It's smooth ride and easy handling is great for the bumps of the city and the stretches of highway. The newest ones are my favourites simply for the way they look, the '02-'04 models. She'll be very happy with the one she chooses, that's for sure!

Re: How good are Expeditions?
I highly recommend the Expedition. We have a '98 with 108,000 miles and have not had anything but a great experience with this vehicle. Like mentioned above, just perform good routine maintenance and you'll be fine. Ours has the air ride suspension and it is the smoothest ride I have ever experienced in an SUV. My wife drives it daily for running errands, grocery shopping, etc. and our two boys (12,7) absolutely love it, too. Get an Expedition, you won't regret it.

I have a 2000 XLT, bought w/24K mi and now has 44K. No major problems; like all Fords I've owned a couple of quirks (and based on input from other forums, common to others as well): Rear wiper sometimes won't work, jiggling the wiper arm gets it working again, I've heard corroded connection or motor on way out. Sway bar end link broke and fell out, replaced with new urethane link/bushing kit ($100 installed at PEP Boys) and what a difference in the handling! I would spend the money and replace them anyways. All electronics and 4WD system have been totally reliable, no issues. Runs perfect, tows 18' boat great, gets 16 mpg hwy (non-towing) with K&N air filter. If you are buying used, I would do some serious research on the '03's- they are the ones with all the rear-end problems and a lot of other assorted quality issues. The '02 and down years, I think, were better built but don't ride as smooth and lack the fold-down 3rd seat. Stay away from the air suspension- too complex and prone to problems. The '04's seem to be fine, Ford is notorious for not getting first-year redesigns quite right, then subsequent years are fine. Overall, I think the Expy is a better choice than the Suburban- more reliable, nicer interior, easier to park. Good luck!

The worst vehicle ever made.. it is my biggest headache.. I have been driving a explorer since 93 , 150,000 + miles on it .. I have never ever had as many problems with any car like I have with my " 2001 Ford Explorer from Ford Motor Co. " I refuse to ever purchase another vehicle from " Ford Motor Co.. " ever again.. do your daughter a favor , by another vehicle..
All this in less than 1 yr.. 1 . Day I brought it home , turn signals went out.. 2 . First time we gave it a bath , windshield leaked on drivers side.. no recall , no warranty , since it was a water leak.. 3 . Diamond Gem module goes , less than 1 yr.. $ 800.00 + , and that is " WITH " EXT warranty.. 4 . Coil pack # 4 goes due to water leak , no EXT warranty coverage due to water leak.. 5 . Another coil pack , along with replacing 8 plugs.. 6 . Passenger side windshield is leaking .. We just had the windshield re-sealed.. Again !! For , the , second time.. |
