my friend has a 91 mustang and i'm gonna install a stereo for her but what i need 2 know first is do i need an installation kit? or will it work without one? ive got the deck already wired to the harness adapter so i was thinkin i might be able to do it today quickly before work if it doesnt need an installation kit. any help would be great, also, what alls involved in getting the old one out??

You're going to need a stereo removal tool if it's a factory stereo. Otherwise, the stereo sleeve should slide into the opening and you can bend your taps, then slide the head unit in. But the removal tool is necessary. It looks like a big "U". You can buy it at walmart or auto zone.

[EDIT] Okay, not sure about the removal tool... Didn't realize it was '91... But if you find you need one, they are easy to buy. They come in sets of two and I believe there are instructions on the back of the package as how to use them... Stupid Ford.. Always coming up with more tools to buy to fix things.

Re: Anyone here own a mustang?

I think 91 needs the removal tool, I know 92 does. Like he said they only run for a few bucks. Theres also a sterio board on the forums, under Cars In General

My sister has an 89 mustang, We had to take it to the shop when she was 16, it still hasnt came back yet and she turned 27 a few months ago.

It should just pop right out. And if you have all your harnesses wired up, you'll just plug them in, and slip it in. Should be a quickie, not lasting more than 15 mins... *eyeshifts* Anyways...

Re: Anyone here own a mustang?

It depends on the factory stereo if its the mach 460 it might be a splice job. Two connectors ones amp and power other is speakers, plus its a 6 speaker setup have to split for the front channels. The mounting should be fine. I think they had bezels that just pop out. Also DONT mess with the console. those are bastard inventions.
