eacv and idle setting

I got the directions to set the idle here http://www.binghamtonlife.com/manual...s/91-11-91.jpg
for my 1990 CRX Si cuz I removed my Jacobs ignition (which I thought had something to do with high idle ~1200rpms) but still there. Anyway, I disconnected the 2p EACV connector and my car stalls before I can even set back the idle with the idle screw adjuster. I read how the thing works whereby electrical pulses from the ECU regulate air and idle speed so it cutting off kind of makes sense but I don't know. Also, stupid question. Switch way do you actually turn the idle screw? I tried about 180 degrees counter clockwise and it really didn't do much. I guess I can play with it, just don't want to mess anything up.

Re: eacv and idle setting

Have you checked the FITV if you have one? I was idling @ 1500 before I fixed mine.

Re: eacv and idle setting

Is that the Fast Idle Control Valve? Yah, I got one and my car always idles around 1500 upon first start up then drops to 1200-1000. Is that about right? I mean is it supposed to drop 300-500rpms? My tach isn't always that accurate especially when everything's still cold (sometimes it gets stuck and I tap on the cluster and it begins to operate again). Thanks.

Re: eacv and idle setting

your eacv makes your car idle high when it is cold to help it warm up faster. when your car is cold, the car will idle at about 1500 and then SLOWLY drop until the temp gauge reads a hair below half way. Then it should be just below 1k rpm....like 800-900 rpm. This is NORMAL if your car is working right. So don't even worry about it.
BTW.. turning the idle screw clockwise lowers ur idle while loosening it will raise your idle.

Re: eacv and idle setting

Thanks bambam... I ended up only turning it back (counterclockwise a hair) so I'll turn it forward (clockwise) again a tad... I remember where it was so no prob...
Another ?.... would it make a diff in a/f mix? I think my wires just got wet and 1 wire o2 probably just cold cuz read more lean today as opposed to perfectly stoich since retimed and new dizzy a week ago.

Re: eacv and idle setting

try resetting your ecu, and also any time you're getting more air...your gonna run leaner. Do you have an A/F gauge? Or are you having some1 test it? BTW...those gauges hooked up to a 1-wire o2 sensor are not incredibly accurate...

Re: eacv and idle setting

yeah got the autometer a/f guage... was working good and this morning I noticed the more air but I only drive for like 5 min. so we'll see. I just warmed up the car while eating lunch then turned the idle screw back a tad passed where it was before (clockwise this time), cut the car off, reset the ecu and restarted car and let it idle for like 5-10 min. (no revving or anything)... and it was idling smooth just a tad over 1k rpm which I figured was ok with cam I got in it (not as tappy sounding as before)... I don't really trust my tach too much, but I guess that's a good thing cuz I never bounce off the rev limiter.
