2004 Brake Noise!!!
I recently purchased a 2004 Malibu LS and I'm very happy with the car. However, I am getting the most terrible grinding sound everytime I brake. This happens at any speed no matter how soft or hard I apply them. I can also feel the vibration through the brake pedal. This can't be normal. Is this happening to anyone else?

I have somewhat of a similar problem. when I first got my car it did that. Now when ever the pads and rotors get hot, it sounds like it is grinding, however I don't feel it in the pedal. I am looking into getting some cross drilled and slotted rotors, these help dissipate the heat much better.

My brakes are fine. 800 miles. The Owner's Manual is VERY specific about the brake break-in period, which I followed to the "T".

Re: 2004 Brake Noise!!!
How old is the car itself? (check the build date). Sometimes, when a vehicle sits on a dealer lot for a while, surface rust develops on the brake rotors. Until you drive the vehicle for a short period of time and wear the surface rust off, it will vibrate and/or squeak.

recall
7600 miles on my car, i live in germany (had it shipped over from South carolina with 2500 miles on it), brakes were a little wierd at first, but now, they work great.
there was a recall on the ABS system too..look into that. not for the noise, however it was for the Anti-lock brake system for when it slows to 3 mph it gives out or something (in my case? never really had a care or notice of that). It's not in every model though. HOLLA B |
