rough idle

Let me first say, like my Username, I know little about cars. My 2001 Escort ZX2 is idling rough when I'm in Drive and at a standstill. The RPMs will dip low or run high (up to 2500). I've replaced the fuel filter, O2 sensor. It has about 90k miles on it. Someone told me to replace the EGR Vacuum Solenoid. I'm planning on doing that this weekend. I'm a bit concerned since tonight, the car is starting to run a little rough with a momentary loss of power (less than 1 sec). What else should I check/replace?
Any help is appreciated.

Check the timing belt....mine did that to me last week. It was idling real rough and would go down to about 400 rpms and die on me... I also have an extra timing belt and tensioner for sale....I had a friend buy me parts from his work and I ended up having to take it in because our other car broke down...let me know if you are interested. Re: rough idle

I've replaced the timing belt and I've got new plugs and wires. It's running better now, but it still stalls in neutral. Can anyone tell me where the IAC Valve is?

Re: rough idle

you may just have to buy a new one...$60 at AutoZone. It's the little black "electric motor" lookin thing on top of your throttle body.
