5 spd Maxima vs. 5 spd Prelude.

I am curious...is this a no brainer for the max's win¿?¿ Or is the Prelude somewhat close to the maxima?

Re: 5 spd Maxima vs. 5 spd Prelude.

i'd say any maxima above a 3rd gen wouldn't have a problem.

OK, i can answe this one from experience. I just got a 95 maxima se (like 4 days ago) after selling my 98 Prelude non-SH 5spd (preludes still hold up incredible resale). The prelude is faster without question. I know the prelude only puts out 10 more hp stock... but if you know how to drive it right, i think the prelude's gearng allows it to take the maxima w/o too much trouble... btw, i love the maxima's engine & trany (alot of torque)

my mistake...when i made this thread i should have put which is the easier car to accelerate quicker. yes the prelude is quick...i got a test drive in one last week and they do feel quick...but may i remind you that they are a 2 dr coupe...i mean my friend's probe gt AUTOMATIC feels quick...but then again, that too is a coupe...the maxima is a 4 door, a family car which is not intended to feel so quick...but that's besides the point...the maxima has a reported 0-60 time of 6.6 seconds...i believe i saw somewhere that the prelude is 7.1 seconds...maybe 6.9, 6.8 at complete best...but if my math teachers have taught me correctly, then the maxima's 6.6 seconds is faster then the 7.1 seconds of the prelude?? i could be wrong though...no i'm right...it's faster.

Re: 5 spd Maxima vs. 5 spd Prelude.

lol...ive read prelude times at 6.7 for 0-60 (manaul tranny & bone stock) with gsr & gst puting up 6.5 seconds respectivly .. if you do bolt ons its a different story. that maxima at 6.6 mustve been manual + chip + bolt ons... id say the maxima is a solid 6.9 seconds. but if you ask me, speed is measured quarter mile times. I know the prelude puts up decent 1/4 mile times. im interested in what the maxima puts up for 1/4mile?? (auto and manual times) ... btw prelude is only 2.2L, gave me 28mpg & girls loved the lude.

The 6.6 0 to 60 time for the Maxima was a five speed and stock.
A five speed 95 - 04 will beat any stock prelude.

you're really underestimating the maxima's potential. 6.6 bone stock is totally feasible. a 4th gen with ecu+bolt ons would easily be hitting mid-high 14's in the 1/4, stock the maxima puts down about a flat 15 on the 1/4. it makes the same hp as the lude but 50+ more lbs of torque and only weighs about 100 lbs more. the maxima is without question the faster car. when i was buying my 4th gen i test drove a 94 v tec prelude, a 95 3000gt SL, and then the 95 maxima. needless to say, i didn't end up in the honda, and there was good reason. the maxima felt significantly faster. the prelude can handle like a mofo though. go look on the .org and look in the 1/4 mile database there are near stock 4th gens touching into the 14's.

Re: 5 spd Maxima vs. 5 spd Prelude.

A 5spd 4th gen with bolt ons will do 14.1 as evidenced by Ceasar. A stock 5spd with a good driver will do 14.7 The Max ain't no slouch lol

Re: 5 spd Maxima vs. 5 spd Prelude.

I highly doubt it as my 4th gen auto can hang just fine with the 5spd prelude and I'm running ~14.5-7 in the quarter on street tires in full street trim.

Re: 5 spd Maxima vs. 5 spd Prelude.

Thanks; 5spd conversion will take place in March (finally get some time off from school and work when there's no snow on the ground lol). I'm hoping for 14.0 afterwards. Check my Cardomain page for mod list.
