Check Engine on/off

Anyone else have or had this problem? I have a 1997 Jeep Wrangler.. sometimes very difficult to start. Now when I run for a while and the engine gets hot, the CHECK ENGINE light comes on. When I let it sit and the engine cools, the light goes out.

Any ideas? thanks..

Re: Check Engine on/off

i have this exact same problem
just normal driving to and from my day job the 1997 wrangler sport is fine......no problems
however during my second job ...which i deliver pizza at night
....the engine gets hot and the light comes on
the very next morning when i turn the jeep on the check engine light is gone.
( it just started doing this about 2 or 3 weeks ago )
and occasionally the next morning the light will still be on.
my "GUESS" is the oxygen sensor.......
looked at the jeep owners maual......says there could be some problem with the exhaust, or transmission?

the next time the light comes on, use the trick on this sight to find the codes for the problem, the site will also tell you what the codes mean, it really works and can give you a head start on fixing the problem!

Re: Check Engine on/off

I would first suspect the O2 sensor, is your idle running different? This sensor is easy to change yourself and should be replaced once a year. It is right below manifold, if you haven't changed this then try it. It could be burnt out which will tell your motor the O2 coming out of your engine is rich which will tell your computer to adjust engine mix.

Re: Check Engine on/off

well i still havent changed out the oxygen sensor
and the light is still comming on only when the engine is running extremely hot from a long night of pizza delivery.....and this funny thing keeps happening as well.......when the engine is running way hot..i smell what seems to be an electrical burning smell...like burning wires or burning plastic.......
i did go to autozone and had then do a computer diagnostic .....the engine light code flashed a 37
any ideas as to what this could be??
and what the heck is this burnt electrical wiring smell ???...has anyone experienced this??

37 Relationship between engine speed and vehicle speed indicates no torque converter clutch engagement. An open or shorted condition detected in the torque converter part throttle unlock solenoid control circuit. Incorrect input state detected for the Park/Neutral switch. Auto only. I hope this helps alittle but as what to do to fix it......may need mechanic.
