Question 77 nova or 73 javelin

okay. i have a 77 nova with a near perfect body with no rust. the nova has no engine or transmission but thats okay because im gonna drop a 350 4-bolt in it and a turbo 350. i got this car for $ 350 and it came with a clean title. just a couple of days ago i found a 73 amc javelin with no engine or transmission for $600 but it has no title but the guy thats selling it says i can get a lost title for it. now i like both of them and ive seen the potential of both. i need to know though wich one is worth more in the long run and in about 10 years wich one would i be able to sell for more?

Re: deciding on a project car

I'd get the AMC, but please don't put the 350 in it.

Both sound like great deals. I never find any deals. I would go with the AMC. Be sure to get a bill of sale and don't put 1 dime into it until the title is in your hand. If you could swing it you should think about buying both, fixing and selling the Nova right away, and maybe the Javelin would cost you 0. Just a thought.

Re: deciding on a project car

i dont really have alot of money and i am currently a senior and high school and i got so much stuff goin on i dont really have time to get a job. i have the nova in my posesion and have already cleaned the whold engine compartment and i know there is no rust damage on the body, just a little surface rust here and there. i also know the the floor pans and the trunk are intact. ive only looked at the javelin once and theres so much junk inside of it i cant test the floors. theres severe rust damage on the left rear quarter and 2 rust holes in the right front fender. i could check the bottom of the car for more damage and to check the floore pans but its out in the country and theres grass up to my knees all around it. so with that said, should i keep the nova or is the javelin too much of a good deal to pass up?

Get both of them, you have your whole life to fix them up. If you dont have enough money then do them one at a time.

Re: deciding on a project car

The Javalin is a Unibody car. Body and cahssis rust can be a real problem with rigidity in the chassis. check the door hinges to see if the doors sag. look underneath for hidden rust. It's more that floor pan rust you need to look for. There are a lot more Nova's out there than Javalins. AMC cars are getting rare. Look for AMC BB in an old SST of Ambassador. Junk yards are full of these old large 4 door cars.

Re: deciding on a project car

watch your ass with the Amc. with a lost title the original owner can come back at any time and reclaim his vehicle. It would be a shame to spend the time and money restoring that vehicle just to have it taken away.
