My odometer doesn't work at the moment, but the previous owner told me he got 20-22 mpg in the city and 26-28 on the highway.

I own a 1985 944 (N/A) in decent condition w/85,000 miles and I paid $2000.

I wonder if the speed sensors in these things just aren't great quality. How great is great? I imagine if you drive it gently it's good, but in my experience when you start using boost regularly mileage drops 20-30%

The best 944 for the street I would say is a S2. Good power and wide powerband.

Best 944 for the highway/freeway would be a Turbo.

I had a 944 S2 and averaged slightly more than 10 liters/100 kms. Of course you'll use more if you're racing around all the time or driving in the city a lot. The S2 has lots of tourque. It's a wonderful, reliable engine. The turbo 2 has more power, but it can be annoying if you let the RPM's drop too low. For all around driving the S2 is the better car. If you want to race around the Nürburgring, go for the Turbo 2.

I'm with most of these fellows too.... The flexibility of the 3.0 engine is awfully nice. The S2 and the 968 are great all around cars. (of course I am a little biased) Depending on your location, not sure about prices in Lithuania, but here in Seattle Washington, a nice S2 or Turbo will go for 8-10 K. Another option (my favorite) is the 968 a little more expensive, but a more modern car all round, plus I like how they look. Good luck, I hope it works out for you.

Yeah, than u all guys it really helped me... well there was one turbo (220 hp) for sale in our country for jus 4,5k euros its about 5,5k $ but I think that it was dead... But now I think of buying used 86 N/A just to find out how it drives and to get used to it, then I think I'll look for s2 model. My favourite is 944, couse 968 cost about 3 times as good 944 s2
