Smelly A/C

2001 JGC. After driving at highway speed and slowing down the AC smells like wet dog. I tried the air sanitizer spray into the air intake under the windshield and even installed the cabin air filter. Still smells like wet dog. Smells even worse on fresh air setting without AC running. Any ideas????

Re: Smelly A/C

The evaporator drain might be pluged. there is a service bulletin for this problem in older jeeps at this website.

Something like that might help your problem as well.

Re: Smelly A/C

Thanks for the info JD, mine has started doing the same thing, only my partner referred to the smell as "Dirty socks and week old cheese". A bit more discriptive....<gag>

Re: Smelly A/C

I saw cans of evaporator freshener/cleaner at Pep Boyz along side of the a/c charging supplies.

Re: Smelly A/C

That would be funny if they came in scents, like the little tree air freshners. Royal pine, Vanilla-Roma, new car puke. That kinda thing. I think I'm on a marketing pipeline here...hmmm....

Re: Smelly A/C

sometimes i put an air freshener where the cabin airfilter is... but that's after you make sure the evaporator drain isn't plugged if it isn't you have to use an aerosol evaporator cleaner.
