new 2 bikes

hey ppl

im pretty new to bikes, but iv always wanted one and i have finally decided to get off my ass and do something about it

a friend is gonna sell his GPX 250 to me for a good price, in a month or so once iv got the funds up.

is this a good bike?
i was also looking at a ZZR 250 however the GPX im buying is an awsome bike and he is giving to to me for mates rate. so i reken ill just take it.

im not a fool i know how dangerous riding can be, and in Australia we have to start off with a 250cc or smaller bike, and stick with it for a year before moving up to a bigger bike.

im really new to the bike thing and havent even got my licence yet, but im pretty keen.

just wondering what sort of times to these bikes run? i cant seem to find too much info on acceleration and the like.

thanks guys, good to have some experienced riders to talk to

woo hoo. another aussie.

welcome aboard.
good choice for first bike but have you read all the threads on this topic. in yankland its a ninja250
how much is mates rates because depending on condition it should be less than 4k.

it wont beat a WRX but you'll get maybe 17s quarter.

Re: new 2 bikes

k cheers, im in perth by the way

he got it for 5 grand bout 6 months ago, hardly did any km's on it himself, he said 4,200 but i reken he'll just give it to me for 4.
its really good condition, no scratches, missing paint or anything i think it may never haev been dropped, dont qote me on that but the body work is in perfect condidtion.

i actually posted this, with only reading i little bit of the info already on here, luckily my plans and the advice already on here are quite similiar.

iv heard so many bad stories about bikes and deaths and stuff that lets just say that im i little nervious about anything bigger than 600cc

anyway good beginners bike i can learn on i think, scare my gf's mom to

thanks P

i've seen them advertised new with helmet jacket and gloves for $5,500 on the road. mates rates might be cheaper than new but no warranty. for 4k you can get a decent CBR 250rr which will be a better bike. it will be older and maybe slightly more 'used'.

your mate might be trying to get you to pay more than he would get for a trade in price because he knows how crappy resale really is. my first bike cost me $7200 and i sold for $4000. that was an fzr250rr 91 model with 12000 k's (photo below left)

Pete, dont be too worried with beating people for a while anyway... if your talking about traffic light capers, then i'd imagine you'll pull away from most average performance cars until the next set of lights

Not to be intrusive amongst you kangaroo Jacks, but the Ninja 250r could be faster than mentioned bikes.

Best 1/4 mile - 14.7
0-60 mph - 5.5
27 rear wheel horsepower and 14 ft/lbs torque @ dry weight of 304-330 lbs.
