Battery went dead with little warning. Does anyone know why?
I also would like to know why the loss of power when I try to pass another car. I just had it tuned up.

Batteries can drop dead at the drop of a hat. I had one that worked fine one evening the next morning couldn't even get the power locks to work. Put in a new battery and worked fine up to the point I traded it. As far as a loss of power several things could cause this you could have bad injectors, bad fuel pump, bad fuel pressure regulator, blocked fuel filter and a host of others. If you write back with more information maybe we can better diagnose your problem. Please list the size engine and mileage. Both would be helpful

Mileage of the car just under 70,000. Size of engine is 3100 SFI V6

Ditto the battery. They just go bad like that. As for no power when passing-does the car down shift? If not check your vacuum modulator. If if is down shifting then I would check the IAC valve. The get gummed up pretty bad sometimes and will cause poor performance under load. Good Luck.

I agree with public on the vacuum modulator maybe failed. I also would suggest that you have the fuel filter checked. IF the person that tuned the car up didn't replace the filter or accidentally put it on incorrectly,the car could be fuel starved. With only 70k miles I doubt the injectors are going bad. The fuel pressure regulator is a possibility although I don't know what the tune-up guy did to your car. Check to make sure the fuel pressure regulator has the vacuum hose plugged into it. Should be located on the engine close to the fuel rails. If the tune up guy removed it or accidentally knocked it loose it could affect the car like you are stating since the fuel pressure will not increase when you accelerate. Just some ideas. Check the fuel pressure regulator first!
