svchost.exe
I curently have 6 of the same program (svchost.exe) running and it is using a lot of my avalibe memory. Is there anyway to make only one of the open/work? Thanks

yup, laymans explanation: svchosts connects your applications to your operating systems "networking function" then goes down to your HAL and then hits hardware, out the wire, out the door, across the country. you use a lot of network intensive applications, there's going to be a lot of these threads and they will eat up some RAM. BUT, this is often an indicator of a virus. not svchosts.exe itself being infected (usually) but seeing a lot of these and lots of memory usage when you aren't doing shit on your computer might mean that there is a problem.
right now i've got 3 of them running with a total of 25MB of ram between them all. i've got this browser window open, windows update auto installer and MSN messenger all running now so I'm not too worried about it. if I had like 8 svchosts.exe's and 70MB of ram in use from them with just a web browser open, then I would start to look for a virus of some sort. but in general, don't worry about svchosts.exe
