Re: el camino 1/4 mile

a big block el camino can run anywhere from 15s to 13s in pure stock form depending on what year, engine size and rating. Most big blocks can run 12s with the right bolt-ons and even 11s and still be easily streetable.

Re: Re: el camino 1/4 mile

You better find a way of keeping the back tires on the pavement. I have a '68 SS. It is a SCREAMER when the tires aren't spinning. Comes stock with a 396, I haven't modified the engine at all. It is stock original with the turbo 400 trans. Put weighted sway bars in the back and on the 1/4 mile I added sand bags. I honestly have no idea what its times were I raced boys in my auto shop class. They had DADDY bought mustangs and BMW's and and two other girlfriends of mine rebuilt the engine in my car. The only modernization it had was a power bench seat because I am short and had a hard time with the between your legs handle, even the radio was stock with an 8-track.
All stock as it is the car is fast. I out ran the few who challenged me. I have done minor alterations such as carb changes and exhaust changes that do minor performance enhancements. The biggest advantage it the transmission, not even speed shifters can out shift it and boys like thier manuals, makes em feel masculine.
