weird electrical problem
First (since I'm new) I'll say HI to everybody around here.
HI ![]() second my problem: I just bought a 91 PA almost everything works on it except for a weird problem. When I tried to use the radio it would play, but I couldn’t change channels or up/down the volume, basically no buttons worked; simultaneously also the AC doesn’t work, no read out on the LCD display, no amber lights lit. All of sudden last night while driving down the road all started to work, Radio AC LCD everything. This morning I went to work it still functioned, stopped at the post office to get mail, and when I started up again nothing worked anymore. So it has a mind of its own. Anybody experienced anything likewise before? or knows where to start troubleshooting. I did check out all the fuses and made sure they are properly seated and intact. Any tips appreciated. |

Re: weird electrical problem
Welcome !
Maybe a short circuit between the radio and the AC wiring? Mike

Re: weird electrical problem
I doubt its a short circuit! Why is it always a short ciruit with everyone when someone has an electrical concern? Short ciruits usually blow fuses or melt wires!
I would tend to think you have a loose wire either a power supply wire or a ground wire problem. Would lean more towards a ground being loose.

Re: weird electrical problem
next part to the story: this morning it didnt work again. I relized that when i turned the lights on with the switch that the radio clock would instantly dimm out. I played around with the different switches, as i flicked on my high beams, radio and AC started to work, and is still working. Next time it goes out I will try flicking high beams again and see if it is repeatable or if it was just a coincidence.

Re: weird electrical problem
the radio normally dims wit hthe lights on. its to prevent distracting you at night (dim radio). the radeo display is bright with the lights off because thats normally means its daytime and it allows you to see the radio display during the day (bright ambient light from the sun means the radio display has to be brighter)
